How to Play Keno

Many casino regulars love Keno because of its thrill factor. Essentially, it is like a condensed version of a state lottery, with cheap buy-ins and the constant potential of a big jackpot. The odds of winning that jackpot aren't great, but if you play your cards right, you can at least take home some modest winnings each time you play.

Getting Your Ticket

The first thing you need to do, whether you're playing Keno online or in a regular casino, is buy your Keno ticket. The price of the Keno ticket is equal to the amount you choose to bet--often, your options will be $1, $3, or $5, but some casinos may have lower and higher options. The card will list eighty numbers, of which you are allowed to choose twenty. After you've selected your numbers, turn in your ticket, get your receipt, and wait for the results.

The Ball Draw

Once everyone has turned in their tickets for a Keno game, twenty numbers will be randomly selected in the Keno booth. This is called the "ball draw." These will then be shown on a special Keno screens throughout the casino (or simply on your computer screen). If the numbers on your tickets match the winning numbers, you can turn in your receipt to collect your winnings.

How much you take home from a Keno game depends on how much people have bet during that round, and how many numbers on your ticket matched those announced from the Keno booth. The more matches you have, the greater percentage of the pot you'll take home.
